Minutes and limits

How Server minutes are counted and what happens when they run out.

Server plans are measured in dubbed minutes: minutes you watch with the dub on. This page explains what counts and what happens at the limit.

What counts

A minute counts when a video is playing in a tab with the dub on.

  • Paused video doesn’t count.
  • Time spent waiting for the dub, with Translating… over the video, doesn’t count.
  • Watching at a faster speed doesn’t count faster than real time.
  • On the Free plan, videos that someone has already dubbed and that play from the shared cache don’t count at all.

The time it takes our GPUs to make the dub is not what you pay for. You pay for what you watch.

How many minutes you get

  • Free
    Minutes a month
    60
    Live streams
    No
  • Pro
    Minutes a month
    Unlimited, fair-use ceiling 3 000
    Live streams
    Yes

The Free plan’s minutes reset each calendar month. Pro’s reset with your billing period.

Your account page and the extension show how many minutes you have used.

When the minutes run out

The limit is soft. A video you have already started doesn’t stop in the middle: it plays to its end, or up to 10 more minutes, whichever comes first.

After that, a new video won’t start dubbing. The message tells you when your minutes reset. You can wait for the reset, switch to the local backend if you have a suitable GPU, or move to Pro.

The Pro fair-use ceiling

Pro is unlimited for normal viewing. The ceiling, 3 000 dubbed minutes (50 hours) a month, is there to stop abuse.

If you go past it, the dub doesn’t stop. Your videos just lose their priority: when the server is busy, they wait in line like Free videos, and the dub is prepared less far ahead.

Tabs at once

Free dubs one tab at a time. Pro dubs up to 3 tabs at once. If you try to start more, the extra tab is refused until one of the others stops.
