DocumentationServer backend
Switch Local and Server
Move between your own GPU and the Server backend.
You can move between Local and Server at any time.
From the popup
The popup’s Settings tab has a Backend section with two choices:
- Local: the backend installed on this computer, running on its NVIDIA GPU.
- Remote: the backend on another machine. In myDubber this is our Server.
Pick one and the next dub uses it.
The popup also has a Change how the dub runs link. It reopens the first-run page with the Local and Server cards, so you can install the local backend or sign in from there.
Local to Server
- Click Change how the dub runs and choose Server.
- Sign in or create an account.
- On a paid plan or trial, the extension switches to Server by itself after checkout.
Your local backend stays installed. It stops by itself 10 minutes after the last dub and uses no GPU while it is off.
Server to Local
- Click Change how the dub runs and choose Local.
- If the local backend is not installed yet, the page leads you through the installer. See Install the local backend.
- Once installed, choose Local in the popup.
Your account stays. On the local backend it keeps the Medium and Full profiles unlocked. See Profiles.
When to switch
Switch to Server when:
- the popup says the backend is slower than the video or the stream, even on Light;
- you want a live stream dubbed and your GPU can’t keep up;
- you are on a computer without a suitable NVIDIA card.
Switch to Local when:
- you have used up your Free minutes for the month;
- you want everything to stay on your own computer.
