DocumentationLocal backend
Install the local backend
Requirements and the installer for running the dub on your own GPU.
The local backend is the program that does the dubbing on your own computer. It is free and needs no account to get started.
Requirements
- Windows 10 or 11.
- An NVIDIA graphics card with 6 GB of video memory or more. 8 GB or more is better, and 12 GB or more gives the best translation.
- About 15 GB of free disk space.
- A good connection for the first install: the models alone are about 10 GB.
- No administrator rights.
Linux and macOS versions are on the way. Until then, use Server on those systems.
Start the install
- On myDubber’s first-run page, choose Local.
- The installer downloads. When it is done, click Open installer.
- Chrome asks you to confirm opening a program. Confirm.
- Windows may show Windows protected your PC. Click More info, then Run anyway.
If the Open installer button doesn’t work, the installer is in Chrome’s downloads: open my-dubber-setup.exe from there.
What the installer does
The installer shows your graphics card, its video memory and your free disk space, then a list of everything it installs, each with its own progress bar: the Python runtime, the translation engine, and the speech, voice and translation models. Several items download at the same time.
The models are downloaded during the install, so your first dub can start right away.
You can close the installer window. The extension’s page shows the same progress. When the install is finished, the backend starts and the window closes by itself.
Everything goes into one folder, %LOCALAPPDATA%\myDubber. Nothing is installed system-wide.
If something fails
Each item in the list can fail on its own. Click Retry on that row; the others are not touched. You can also run the installer again at any time to repair the install.
After the install
Open a video on YouTube, click the myDubber icon and turn on Dub this tab. See Your first dub.
To start, stop or update the backend later, see Start, stop and update.
