DocumentationGetting started

Install the extension

Add myDubber to Chrome and choose how the dub runs.

myDubber is a Chrome extension. It dubs YouTube videos and live streams into another language while you watch. The extension itself is small: the work of listening, translating and voicing is done by a backend, either on your own computer or on our server.

Add myDubber to Chrome

  1. Open myDubber’s page in the Chrome Web Store and click Add to Chrome.
  2. Pin myDubber to the toolbar, so its icon is always one click away. The icon also shows the dub’s status as a small dot.

myDubber also works in Microsoft Edge.

Choose Local or Server

The first time myDubber starts, it opens a page with two choices:

  • Local
    What you need
Windows, an NVIDIA GPU with 6 GB or more, about 15 GB of disk
    Cost
    Free
  • Server
    What you need
    Any computer with Chrome
    Cost
    Free minutes or Pro

The page looks at your computer and suggests one. If your system is not Windows or your graphics card is not NVIDIA, the Local card is greyed out with the reason, and Server is recommended. Not sure which to pick? Read Local or Server.

Both paths end the same way: open a video on YouTube and click the myDubber icon.

You can change your mind later. See Switch between Local and Server.

Tester builds

Before the store listing, testers get myDubber as a zip file from the releases page:

  1. Unzip it into a folder you will keep. Chrome loads the extension from that folder.
  2. Open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode in the top right, click Load unpacked and pick the folder.
  3. To update, unzip the new version over the same folder and click Reload on chrome://extensions.

Chrome warns about developer-mode extensions every time it starts. That is expected for tester builds.

Next step

Your first dub walks you through dubbing a video.
