FAQ
Short answers to common questions about myDubber.
What does myDubber do?
It dubs YouTube videos and live streams into another language while you watch. It separates the voices from the music and sounds, recognises the speech, tells the speakers apart, translates, and re-voices each speaker in a voice cloned from their own. The new voices are mixed back under the original sound, in sync with the picture.
Is it free?
The local backend, which runs on your own NVIDIA GPU, is free. The Server backend has a Free plan with 60 minutes a month for recordings, and Pro for $10 a month or $96 a year. See the pricing page.
Do I need a powerful computer?
For Local: Windows, an NVIDIA GPU with 6 GB of video memory or more, and about 15 GB of disk. For Server: any computer with Chrome. See Local or Server.
Does it work on a Mac or on Linux?
Through the Server backend, yes. The local backend for Linux and macOS is on the way; today it runs on Windows with NVIDIA.
I have an AMD or Intel graphics card
The local backend needs an NVIDIA card. Use the Server backend.
Do I need an account?
Not for the local backend on the Light profile. Medium and Full need you to sign in, on any plan. The Server backend always needs an account.
Which languages does it support?
Twelve: English, Korean, Russian, Ukrainian, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Turkish and Polish. All twelve can be dubbed from; Ukrainian, Portuguese, Turkish and Polish can’t be voiced yet. See Languages.
Can I pick the voice?
No. Each speaker gets a voice modelled on their own, so the dub keeps who is speaking. See Speakers and voices.
Is that the speaker’s real voice?
No. It is a synthetic voice modelled on theirs, saying the translation. It is made on the fly for your own viewing.
Does it work on live streams?
Yes, about 14 seconds behind live. On the Server backend, live streams are part of Pro. See Live streams.
Which sites does it work on?
YouTube today. See Supported sites.
Why does the video pause when I turn the dub on?
myDubber needs a few seconds of dub ready before it can play in sync. The video waits with Translating… over it and then plays.
Does the local backend use my GPU all the time?
No. It runs only while you dub and stops by itself 10 minutes after the last dub. You can also stop it from the popup.
Does myDubber send my data anywhere?
On Local, nothing is sent to us. On Server, our server gets the video address, the playback position and your languages. See Privacy.
What counts as a Server minute?
A minute you watch with the dub on. Paused time doesn’t count, and on Free, videos played from the shared cache don’t count. See Minutes and limits.
What happens when my minutes run out?
The video you are watching plays to its end, or up to 10 more minutes. New videos won’t start dubbing until your minutes reset.
Can I cancel Pro?
Yes, from your account page: a paid plan runs to the end of the period you paid for. The 7-day trial needs no card and nothing to cancel: when it ends you are back on Free.
