Troubleshooting

Fixes for the most common problems with the dub and the local backend.

Start with the popup. The status line under the header shows what the dub is doing, and the Settings tab shows the state of the local backend. Most problems show up there with a hint.

Installing

Windows protected your PC

The installer is not signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may stop it. Click More info, then Run anyway.

Open installer does nothing

Open Chrome’s downloads and run my-dubber-setup.exe from there.

One item in the installer failed

Click Retry on that row. The other items are not affected. You can also run the installer again to repair the install.

The installer warns about video memory

With less than 4 GB of free video memory, the local backend can’t give you a good dub. Close other programs that use the GPU, or use Server.

The local backend

The popup says Not installed

The local backend isn’t on this computer yet. See Install the local backend.

The backend says Did not start

Click Log to see why, then click Start to try again. If it fails again, run the installer again to repair the install, and send us the log.

Running, not answering yet

The backend has started and is still loading its models. The first start takes the longest. Wait a little; the popup shows the progress.

The backend is not running

The dub needs the backend. Check that Start it when a dub is turned on is switched on, or click Start.

The dub

The video keeps stopping

The popup says The backend is slower than the video. The video waits for the dub rather than playing without it. You can:

  • pause the video for a while to let the dub get ahead;
  • close other programs that use the GPU;
  • pick a lighter profile;
  • use the Server backend.

If it says The backend barely keeps up, the video may stop now and then.

The live dub falls behind

The popup says The backend is slower than the stream. Pick a lighter profile, such as Medium instead of Full, or use the Server backend. See Live streams.

The dub waits a few seconds at the start

That is normal. The Translating… badge shows while the first part of the dub is made. On a live stream myDubber also waits for ads to end.

The language I want is greyed out

Ukrainian, Portuguese, Turkish and Polish can’t be voiced yet. You can still dub from them. See Languages.

The status shows Error

The reason is shown next to it. Turn Dub this tab off and on again. If the error comes back, send us the log.

After a profile switch the dub stopped

When you switch profiles, the backend restarts and the dub picks up again within a few seconds.

Server

A new video won’t start dubbing

You have used up your minutes for the month. The message says when they reset. See Minutes and limits.

A tab is refused

Your plan dubs a limited number of tabs at once: one on Free, up to 3 on Pro. Turn the dub off in another tab.

Reporting a problem

Send us the log from the popup’s Log button, or the newest file in the logs folder inside %LOCALAPPDATA%\myDubber, with the video link and the time the problem happened.
